About the story

What happens

For a day and a night a man has sat in a darkened room, arms folded, while the summer goes on outside the blind. Mr. Sabin has abandoned power for love, and now his wife Lucille is gone. A warning in yellow crayon has reached him, and a secret order with influence in every capital of Europe is closing every road around him.

The search runs from New York to London. Sabin must outthink political bosses, aristocratic conspirators and an old rival who knows exactly where to strike, while the British statesman Reginald Brott is drawn into Lucille's dangerous orbit. E. Phillips Oppenheim's thriller is all secret societies, political intrigue and a hero too resourceful to stay beaten.
